I've seen theories that Karlach was a player character involved in the canonical version of Baldur's Gate: Descent to Avernus, and I think that could be an interesting way for her to have ended up as Zariel's champion. In BG3, each type of Enemy has different attacks, resistances and immunities. Karlach: Her quest seems to revolve around Zariel and the politicians in Baldur's Gate that Karlach said sent her to Hell.
